🌸About the materials Sunny Sea uses in its knobwork products and Sunny Sea's thoughts on them.

KAWAMATA KONNO SILK — A Gentle Silk Woven from Nature and Tradition

Since its founding in 1918 (Taisho 7), Konno Weaving Mill has been producing silk for over 100 years in the mountainous town of Kawamata, Fukushima Prefecture. The locally produced “Kawamata Silk” is treasured for its exceptional craftsmanship—using ultra-fine threads thinner than human hair, woven wide using a traditional technique known as “nureyoko,” which allows for weaving without twisting the threads. This results in an incredibly fine and supple silk fabric with a natural texture, so rare and refined that it is even used in the restoration of traditional Japanese paintings.

What makes this silk especially unique is that it is raw silk, meaning it retains both natural proteins produced by silkworms: sericin and fibroin. These proteins are said to be similar to the proteins found in human skin, making the fabric exceptionally gentle and soothing to the touch. Unlike glossy, heavily processed silk, raw silk has a more natural appearance and warmth, offering a rustic charm and soft texture.

For these reasons, Sunny Sea chooses to use KAWAMATA KONNO SILK, a material born from the harmony of nature and traditional Japanese craftsmanship.

🌸Thoughts of Sunny Sea
I wore a shiro-muku (wedding kimono) with a crane pattern for my own wedding.
Shiro-Muku is a bride's costume. It is a pure white kimono with white embroidery of flowers, cranes, and other auspicious motifs.
I remember how fascinated I was when I saw the pure white cranes in this costume.
Cranes are a symbol of eternal love and marriage, as they spend their entire lives together.
I want to reproduce this pure white crane. I want people all over the world to experience that crane.
I created this piece imagining a happy bride.

🌸Japanese Crane – A Symbol of Longevity and Good Fortun
The Japanese crane (Tsuru) is a majestic bird that holds deep cultural significance in Japan. It is often associated with longevity, peace, and good fortune. In Japanese folklore, cranes are believed to live for a thousand years, making them a powerful symbol of a long and prosperous life.
Cranes also appear in Japanese art, textiles, and kimono designs, often depicted elegantly flying or standing in pairs, symbolizing love and fidelity. In fact, cranes mate for life, making them a popular motif in weddings and celebrations.
Brides also wear crane hairpins at Japanese weddings.

🌸To you who will hold this piece in your hands
I hope this elegant hairpiece will make you feel uplifted, confident, and radiant.
Each item is made with heartfelt care, imagining the joy and beauty it will bring to its wearer.
Of course, it can also be worn for parties or even for everyday use.
